Admission Notification for (Full Time/Part-Time) Ph.D Programmes (Session Spring 2014)

Applications are invited from interested candidates for admission to full-time/part- time Ph.D programmes in the following Departments and Groups
Departments: Applied Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, Bio-Medical Instrumentation, Bio-Technology, Chemical Engineering & Technology, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Information Technology (including Information Science), Management, Mechanical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Production Engineering, and Remote Sensing

Eligibility Criteria: An applicant for admission to the Ph.D programme of this Institute shall possess, M.Phil./Master’s degree in Technology/Engineering/Pharmacy/Management/ Architecture/ or equivalent, with a minimum of 60% marks at Master’s level for General candidates (55% in case of full-time sponsored candidates with a minimum of three years professional experience, and  SC/ST candidates).
Any other discipline approved by the Technical Council of the Institute from time to time
Applicants with B.Tech/B.E./B.Sc. Engg./B.Arch./B.Pharm./M.B.B.S. having a minimum of 70% marks at graduation level for general candidates (55% in case of full-time sponsored candidates with a minimum of three years professional experience, and 55% for SC/ST candidates) may also apply
However, an applicant having professional qualifications such as associate member of institution of Engineers (India) /Aeronautical Society of India or equivalent may be considered for admission to the Ph.D programme only after he/she completes the ME/ M.Tech programme of any recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks at Master’s level (55% in case of full-time sponsored candidates with a minimum of three years professional experience, and SC/ST candidates)
Candidates must have adequate proficiency in written and spoken English.

Entrance Test: The Ph.D entrance test will be held on 25th Feb 2014, 09.00 a.m. to 01.00 p.m. at the Institute main building on the Institute’s campus at Mesra, Ranchi-835215
Those candidates who wish to join the Ph.D programme (Session Spring 2014) at its other campuses the venue for the test and interviews will be the same campus
The candidate must indicate the choice of campus in their application form
Selection Procedures: Selection to the Ph.D programmes would be based on previous academic record, performance in a written test followed by an interview

Fellowships: Candidates who have qualified in CSIR-NET/BRNS/NBHM/other selections would avail the fellowships directly from the respective organizations
A limited number of institute fellowships are available for 3 years (extendable to 1 more year) at Mesra/ other campuses
A limited number of TEQIP fellowships are also available for few departments at Mesra
How to apply: To apply for the Ph.D programme (SP-2014) of the Institute, eligible candidates must download and print the application form available on website www.bitmesra.ac.in, and send the completed form along with two recent colour photographs (one pasted on the form and one attached by paper clip to the form), with photocopies of all marksheets and certificates, and a crossed demand draft for Rs.2500/- (Rs.1500/- for SC/ST) (non-refundable) in favour of Birla Institute of Technology, payable at Ranchi, in a stout A4 size envelope by speed post/courier to the office of Dean, Admission and Academic Coordination, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi-835215, positively by the due date
