Excellent vacancy for two positions of Manager, Field research operations at ICRISAT


ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for two positions of Manager, Field Research Operations, as part of a continuing expansion in the institute’s commitment to using genetic resources and modern approaches to crop improvement to benefit the smallholder farmers in the dry tropics globally.  These positions will be based at Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh. ICRISAT is one of the members of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).  CGIAR is a global partnership that unites organizations engaged in research for sustainable development with the funders of this work. The funders include developing and industrialized country governments, foundations, and international and regional organizations. The work they support is carried out by 15 members of the Consortium of International Agricultural Research Centers, in close collaboration with hundreds of partner organizations, including national and regional research institutes, civil society organizations, academia, and the private sector. Responsibilities : Plan and coordinate chickpea/pigeonpea breeding field research operations, including field layout and all other field operations (seed preparation, sowing, integrated crop management, data recording, selections, harvest, post-harvest data management, and seed storage), data analysis, data management and preparing project reports, and drafts for research papers. Liaise with farmers, farmer cooperatives and public and private seed companies for seed production and distribution.
Desired Candidate’s Profile: The candidate should be Graduate in Agriculture or Biological Sciences with a minimum 20 years’ experience of managing on-station and on-farm research operations in crop breeding programs, including field layouts, experimental designs for plant breeding trials, participatory varietal selection, multi-location international nurseries and trials, etc. He/she should have experience in pedigree and data management of breeding trials/ programs, and knowledge of Agro-base software is desirable. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multi-cultural environment of the institute is essential.
