Excellent vacancy for two positions of Manager, Field research operations at ICRISAT


ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for two positions of Manager, Field Research Operations, as part of a continuing expansion in the institute’s commitment to using genetic resources and modern approaches to crop improvement to benefit the smallholder farmers in the dry tropics globally.  These positions will be based at Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh. ICRISAT is one of the members of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).  CGIAR is a global partnership that unites organizations engaged in research for sustainable development with the funders of this work. The funders include developing and industrialized country governments, foundations, and international and regional organizations. The work they support is carried out by 15 members of the Consortium of International Agricultural Research Centers, in close collaboration with hundreds of partner organizations, including national and regional research institutes, civil society organizations, academia, and the private sector. Post: Manager, Field Research Operations
No of Post: Two
Responsibilities : Plan and coordinate chickpea/pigeonpea breeding field research operations, including field layout and all other field operations (seed preparation, sowing, integrated crop management, data recording, selections, harvest, post-harvest data management, and seed storage), data analysis, data management and preparing project reports, and drafts for research papers. Liaise with farmers, farmer cooperatives and public and private seed companies for seed production and distribution.
Desired Candidate’s Profile: The candidate should be Graduate in Agriculture or Biological Sciences with a minimum 20 years’ experience of managing on-station and on-farm research operations in crop breeding programs, including field layouts, experimental designs for plant breeding trials, participatory varietal selection, multi-location international nurseries and trials, etc. He/she should have experience in pedigree and data management of breeding trials/ programs, and knowledge of Agro-base software is desirable. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multi-cultural environment of the institute is essential.

Medicinal and Aromatic Plants have been used in different ways and methods in overcoming various health problems. Phytochemicals derived from medicinal Plants are been used in different systems of Medicine like Aurveda, Siddha, Unani, Homeopathy, Folklore and Allopathy. Majority of the Drugs used in Allopathy are derived from Medicinal Plants. Many of the Pharmaceutical and Agrochemical Industries are currently engaged actively in Research and Development of Eco-Friendly,organisms, Phytochemicals, and plant products like biofertilizers,biopesticides nutraceuticals,and dietary suppliments. Nearly 70-80 % of Population of Developing Countries are relining on Products which are of plant origin. This trend indicates the demanding position of Medicinal and Aromatic plants in the present market. Therefore this Conference reviews, discuseses,deliberate and share their Research experience for the benefit of students, teachers and researchers and common man.

The official language of the conference will be English.  There will be Oral and Poster presentations.  Oral presentation will be by invitations through respective technical session, Conveners. Contributed papers will be presented as posters. Abstracts of both invited and contributed papers will be printed and distributed to registered participants.  Abstracts should be electronically typed on A4 size papers with 3cm margins on all sides, should not exceeded 300 words.  Those interested to participate in the conference are requested to fill in the enclosed registration form and send it on or before 7th March, 2012

Advertisement for Senior Research Fellow at Centre for Molecular Medicine at JNU


Applications are invited for One (1) post of Senior Research Fellow funded by the DBT to work on the project entitled “Studies on the mechanism of activation of hypoxia-inducible factor-1 in Leishmania donovani infected macrophages and its role on intracellular growth of the parasite”. The project may need rigorous work on mammalian cells and in the areas of gene expression and signalling pathways as well as parasite culture. The preference will be given to the candidate who has excellent experience on techniques on molecular/cell biology related to RNA/ immunofluorescence detection of proteins. The duration of the project is up to June, 2014.

  • Essential Qualifications: M.Sc. or equivalent in any branch of biological sciences with experience (more than 2 yrs) in the area of mammalian gene expression, host-parasite interaction in related area.
